This one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, coastal waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages.
In a medical emergency a little first aid knowledge and immediate action can save lives, especially in remote locations. This one-day course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to support skippers.
This is also the default first aid training required for those holding any RYA instructor qualifications or commercial endorsements is the RYA First Aid course. This course is designed for the specific demands of providing first aid afloat. It is also accepted by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) for use on board small commercial vessels and by World Sailing for compliance with the Offshore Special Regulations, and covers the requirements of the Health and Safety regulations for the purposes of emergency first aid at work training.

Timings: 9:30am - 5pm (minimum 6 hours instructional time)

Certificate valid for: 3 years
Who's it designed for: The course is designed to provide a working knowledge of first aid for all those who go afloat, on inland waters or up to 60 miles offshore. The syllabus is based on the recommendations of the HSE and the MCA.
It also fulfils requirements for:
The MCA Code of Practice for Skippers of small commercial vessels up to category 2, including boatmasters.
The Senior first aid certificate for offshore racers subject to ISAF regulations on first aid training (OSR 4.08.4)

What do you need to provide?
Quite simply; a classroom or dry teaching area (this could be a conference room in a hotel, your local sailing club etc) with adequate space for the number of students on the course and some chairs (if you are unable to arrange this, we can, but it will hold an additional charge). If you have access to a whiteboard or power point projector please let us know.
