Training for recreational and racing skippers and crews who encounter rough weather and problems at sea. The certificate awarded conforms with the eligibility requirements of section 6.01 of the ISAF Special Regulations for category 0, 1 and some category 2 offshore races.

 The RYA/World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival Course (previously known as the ISAF Offshore Survival Course) is for anyone going offshore racing  – such as the Fastnet Yacht Race and other high profile races.

This is a two day course covers the theory of preparing for heavy weather emergencies and abandonment at sea, followed by a practical session on life rafts, survival techniques, fire fighting and the correct use of flares.

Who this course is for?

  • Delivery skippers/crew
  • One day refresher for the ISAF Offshore Safety course required for activities like the Rolex Fastnet Race

What is included?

  • RYA Sea Survival Instructor / World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival instructor
  • RYA Sea Survival Handbook
  • Classroom and pool based sessions
  • Use of a foam lifejacket (if you do not have your own)
  • RYA Sea Survival Certificate (assuming successful completion)
  • RYA / ISAF World Sailing Offshore Personal Survival Certificate (assuming successful completion)

What is not included: 

  • Use of wet weather gear (please contact us if you do not have any)

Previous Experience/Knowledge: Practical Offshore Sailing Experience. 

Familiarised with Special Regulations: 6.02 and 6.03 (see downloads below) 

Minimum Age: 18

  • Hypothermia

Day 1: RYA Sea Survival Course - 9am Start in our classroom with a practical session in a nearby heated swimming pool
